Artist (Project-Based Work)

Company Overview
At Buddha Bee Apiary, we’re on a mission to spread the magic of regenerative beekeeping. Through our Host-a-Hive program, we install and maintain beehives at homes, schools, and businesses. We’re passionate about connecting people to nature through unforgettable experiences with bees.

Position Description
We're seeking skilled painters to bring unique designs to life on our beehives. Please note this is not a full-time position. By applying, you’ll join our roster of artists that we call on when projects become available.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with us to understand our client’s design preferences and requirements

  • Create initial design drafts digitally or on paper for client approval before hand-painting hives

  • Ensure that designs meet our client's branding specifications

  • Provide clear and consistent communication throughout the design process

  • Help set project deadlines and meet them

Requirements:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing your artistic skills and paint (we love digital artists, but these hives must hand-painted!)

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow specific design requirements

  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively

  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines

  • Located close enough to the Raleigh-Durham area to able to pick up boxes and deliver them after completion

Pricing Information:
Some of our clients may have a simple design in mind, while others may be looking for something more complex. Please include with your application three different paintings you have done along with general estimates for how much you would charge to re-create the same painting on a hive. (We won’t ask you to re-create these same paintings! This is just to help us understand your rates.)

So, how will this work?
When one of our customers requests a custom-painted beehive, we’ll reach out to you with information about their vision. If you’d like to take on the project, we’ll ask you to provide a cost and timeline estimate. Once that’s done, you’ll create a first draft. After that’s approved, you’ll pick up the boxes (without bees in them to be clear!) and begin painting. We’ll be eager to see how they’re coming along so weekly updates will be much appreciated. Once the painting is complete, you’ll drop off the boxes back with us and pick up your check.

How to Apply:
Email justin@buddhabeeapiary.com with a little information about yourself, a link to your portfolio, any questions you may have, and the pricing information described above.
